In the year 2000 when the call was made to register our Namirembe Cathedral Volunteers, some people volunteered to do other tasks besides readings and/or intercessions. Tasks like cleaning the church, leading services, preaching in service were some of the tasks that were indicated. It became clear, after that exercise, that there was a need for a deliberate effort, on part of the church, to ensure that:
- More opportunity is given to Christians to volunteer in areas of volunteers interest
- Proper guidance and assistance is given to people who want to be involved.
- A rota is kept so that Clergy do not have the burden of looking up help
- A register of Volunteers is maintained and updated annually to allow new entrants and exits.
This has been the case for the last 20 years. Since that period the volunteers group has grown from about 25, in the year 2000, to over 250.
