The Namirembe Cathedral Volunteers brought their 25th anniversary celebrations to a memorable close last year on Sunday, 7th September 2025, marking a quarter-century of dedicated service, faith and fellowship at Namirembe Cathedral.
The celebrations brought together current volunteers, alumni, their families, friends of the ministry and members of the Cathedral congregation for a day filled with thanksgiving, worship, reflection and joyful reunion.
The day began with a special Thanksgiving Service during which the Volunteers expressed gratitude to God for sustaining the ministry over the past 25 years. The service provided an opportunity to reflect on the organisation’s journey, celebrate its achievements and recognise the many people whose dedication has shaped its growth.
The Guest Preacher, Bishop Emeritus Wilberforce Kityo-Luwalira, represented the Bishop of Namirembe Diocese, the Right Reverend Moses Banja. In his sermon, he encouraged the Volunteers to remain steadfast in faith and committed to serving God and His people.
The celebrations were also graced by the Guest of Honour, Owekitiibwa Robert Waggwa-Nsibirwa, the Second Deputy Katikkiro and Treasurer of the Kingdom of Buganda. His presence and words of encouragement added significance to the occasion and challenged the Volunteers to preserve their legacy while preparing a new generation for service.
One of the most touching moments of the day was the reunion of current and former Volunteers. Old friendships were renewed, memories were shared and families joined in celebrating the bonds created through years of service at the Cathedral. A fellowship lunch provided an informal setting for alumni and current members to reconnect and celebrate together.
The anniversary programme concluded on a high note with the 19th edition of the Gospel Music Rally, see video attached. The vibrant concert filled the Cathedral with praise and worship as choirs and guest artistes led the congregation in celebrating God’s faithfulness. The music, testimonies and enthusiastic participation provided a fitting grand finale to the anniversary activities.
Over the past 25 years, the Namirembe Cathedral Volunteers have supported the Cathedral Administration in improving service delivery to the congregation. The ministry has also equipped generations of young people with leadership, communication, computer, customer-care and problem-solving skills.
From a modest beginning, the organisation has grown to more than 100 active members and over 800 alumni. Its story is one of servant leadership, friendship and a shared commitment to strengthening the ministry of Namirembe Cathedral.
As the anniversary celebrations came to an end, the occasion was not simply a reflection on the past. It also marked the beginning of a new chapter. The Volunteers renewed their commitment to serve with integrity, humility and dedication while building upon the strong foundation established over the past quarter-century.
The Namirembe Cathedral Volunteers extend their sincere appreciation to the Cathedral Administration, clergy, congregation, alumni, families, partners and friends whose prayers and support made both the anniversary celebrations and the journey of the past 25 years possible.
The celebrations may have ended, but the journey of faith, fellowship and service continues.
